Founded in 2017, Girl Gone Authentic began in Southeast Asia as a digital archive of heritage craft, indigenous knowledge and independent creatives working in relationship with the earth. Today, rooted in Southern Africa, it is an independent cultural research and editorial practice exploring our relationship with the earth, each other, and the things we choose to make, inherit and consume.

Through research, writing and collecting, Girl Gone Authentic follows the threads between material and memory, folklore and contemporary life, art and everyday objects, poetry and place. It traces provenance, craftsmanship, cultural knowledge and meaning, bringing context to the things that surround us and making visible what might otherwise be overlooked.

Girl Gone Authentic is interested in the worlds we inherit, the worlds we make, and the references that quietly shape how we see.
